Dude Gets Technical

Okay - I want to get a few boring things out of the way today.

1. I am soliciting informative comments on how I can spiff up the ole Blog. In particular, I was hoping to do three things . . . I want to create a cooler looking banner for the top. I want to include a picture link along the side that shows what book I am currently reading and I was also hoping to activate the links section. I am a borderline idiot on HTML, so any easily followable helping hints would really be choice.

Thanks in advance on that.

2. I have to pass on a link that has been eating up my freetime. I just get such a kick out of it.

http://monkeydyne.com/rmcs/buildmeat.html

It is a comic creator using the Redmeat comic characters as a framework.

(Be warned that it gets a tinsy bit addictive.)

Here are a couple of my own submissions -

In your template is where the "I power blogger" icon is located. Under that, you can create more buttons following what they have for theirs but with a picture of the book instead.
I was going to post an example but it keeps regecting my post because of the html.

do you know how to link in text? Click on the link symbol in your composer window & paste all the http:// blah blah stuff in there. Then you can make your own title for it in your text, like this: build some meat!

oops, I screwed that up. But I hope you get the point. It works on the bloglogo one.

I'll go now.

Yeah, I deleted the first post. Stupid typos.

I keep trying to just add an example, but it won't let me. Stupid blogger.

Email me what book you want to link and maybe I could email you back the html text to just cut and past into your template, since I can't post it in the comment section.
Again, stupid blogger!

I just don't have the energy to spiff up the old blog.. so if you had blogger block last Friday - maybe you're internally rebelling and you don't know it!!

yay for internal rebellion!!

I'm a web designer for a half a billion dollar medical company and I haven't done a damned thing with my blog. I'm tapped out.

Just say to yourself - pretty on the inside. :)

Oh wait - you're a guy.. that might be too feminine. Dammit - do it anyway.

See, that's why they have blog templates - so lazy people like me don't have to get clever with html an' stuff.
Sorry, I'm no help at all. Just stopped by to say hello :-)

Terri - hello . . . you're no help

:)

thanks all for coming by - regardless of the level of so-called "help"

I don't know why I suddenly got embarrased by the lame look of my blog - I guess one of the reasons I started the thing in the first place was to improve my knowledge of html and all the other "behind the scenes" internet things.

What better time to start than now?

Um, yeah, I started mine so I could share photos & stuff with ppl back home... and somehow it morphed into an outlet for me to voice some of the sh*t spinning around in my head.
HTML is the least of my worries.
Although I GOTTA get rid of all that PINK sometime!!!

look at spinning girl, getting down with her bad self!

I am hopeless at most of that stuff. I have a friend do my stuff for me, but she is retired from other people's blogs...

Good luck.

Lingo and Johnny - Actually, I am a decent artist, but I have no clue how to put a redesigned logo into my page. Any help here would be great . . .

Anyone?

Queen of the Night - you can certainly use the name for your tombstone. I would never refuse a dying woman's last request.

:)

Aughra - Why do I get a little hot under the collar when I read your comments? Could it be your naked profile image? Yep, that's it.

Thanks for all the help everyone - I promise to keep working on getting the page up to date.

Hipness is next to Godliness, right? Isn't that how the saying goes?

Ben, I have no advice regarding sprucing up your site. Just wanted to let you know that "Life as a Box" was hacked on Saturday 9/24 to the point where I had to delete the site. The people who hacked me then took my old url and put up that obituary thing. They also created a duplicate profile and went around the blogosphere posing as me and putting really vulgar and racist comments. This was initially how I discovered the hack job. People were coming to my site wanting to know why I was saying such things. Luckily it appears you escaped unscathed as many who commented on my site were not as lucky. Just wanted to let you know and also tell people to be really vigilant about changing passwords regularly (something which I was lax in). As of today no word from blogger. I've only email them about 15 times so really I expect to hear back any day now. Yeah right!

Speaking of links, Ben, do you mind if I link you on my blog?

Sure thing, Arkie. Go ahead and link away.

Lingo - I am currently working on it in another window . . . we shall see.

Thanks -

Ben O.
